My Source
Listen

WVXU is My Source for what's going on in the world. I’ve been listening for 30 something years. I started listening back in 1974 when I started listening to Morning Edition. I wake up by that. It’s my first contact with the rest of world every day. I need that Monday through Friday.

I do find that All Things Considered is another extraordinary source of information. I work as a microbiologist. I’ve been in the laboratory all day. I haven’t seen outside. I can catch up on what’s going on in the world. It’s the most unbiased news entity that I have found so far.

My Source

WVXU is My Source for ongoing adult education. NPR fills me in on current events and the history behind current events. What NPR doesn't do is tell me how to feel about things; it gives me detailed information and then leaves me to decide how I feel about things, based on the views of both sides of every issue. NPR is my source for thoughtful and insightful information on all the issues of the day.

My Source

WVXU is My Source for The news coverage of the earthquake in China has indeed been touching. After hearing Melissa Bloch's story of a couple in search of their 2-year old, only to learn he had died in the arms of his grandfather, I wrote this poem. I would be pleased to share it with your listeners.

Her Son Begged

Her son begged
for her to stay
or bring him to work
her 2-year old
before they knew
his quake-fate.

His father shared
"A lovely boy."

With the news the
mother shrieked in grief
their darling found
in the arms
of her father
her mother
close by
all lost.

How do these
one-child
Chinese families
bear this loss
How can their broken
hearts
heal?

Thank you for all the wonderful programming WVXU provides...a true gift to our community.

My Source

WVXU is My Source for Morning Edition, Diane Rehm, Fresh Air, Science Friday, All Things Considered and the weekend NPR shows, and sometimes Cincinnati Edition, Prairie Home Companion and the BBC. I hear about books, candidates, issues, events and the state of the world.

I like the calm cadences of public radio, the probing news, varied timely topics and the way I can work in the kitchen and go through my house with a series of variously functional old boomboxes tuned to informative and amusing NPR programs.

My Source

WVXU is My Source for the rest of the story. The local TV stations and radio stations are very good at headlines and sensationalism, but not so good at filling in the details. I listen to WVXU to get the details. I also listen for opinions without the shouting and sarcasm found on some of the other radio stations. Thanks for being there.

Lynn from Florence

Obama's Early Brush With Financial Markets
A little-known chapter in Sen. Barack Obama's life is the year he spent writing about financial markets for a New York City firm. The job gave him a crash course in market economics — knowledge that some say is still evident on the campaign trail.

Pentagon To Rule On Disputed Air Force Contract
Iran's missile test comes during the same week that the U-S made progress on a missile defense system in Europe. One of the system's goals would be to defend against Iran's missiles. NPR Pentagon correspondent Tom Bowman talks to host Steve Inskeep about the missile test as well as reports that the Air Force will reopen bids for new air refueling tankers.
