With the Little Miami School District about to fall into State receivership, the Board must decide what to do now. WVXU's Ann Thompson reports.
THOMPSON: On its website, Little Miami thanks the 49-hundred voters who supported the 16.95 mill levy, but it says it's hard to feel positive about the future, when the vote was another step in destroying a community and dismantling an excellent school district. Superintendent Dan Bennett says the levy failure will have an impact on Little Miami educationally.
BENNETT: You know, when you are facing 5.5 million dollars in front end debt, and you are beginning the borrowing process, it really begins to take its toll, because that's a long-term stay."
THOMPSON: Bennett says a State take-over will make it difficult to attract quality teachers and administrators. He says the school board is expected to decide next week whether to place another levy on the ballot on the ballot in May, and what to do about extra-curricular activities next year. Opponents criticized the levy's size and some suggested a one-percent earnings tax to help fund the schools.
