Butler County United Way plans to move ahead after merger failure
By Mark Heyne
2/5/2010 2:57:50 PM

The head of the Butler County United Way says the organization will continue to move forward with its work in the community now that the Warren County United Way has rejected a merger. Maureen Noe is the president of the Butler County United Way:

"We have chosen what we're calling the big, audacious goal to be Butler County residents, households will earn a living wage. We have a team of volunteers that are working through that to determine what that's going to look like here in Butler County. We've already brokered some preliminary relationships with the faith commnity, the government and the business sector to move that forward."

The boards of both United Ways had approved the merger, but Warren County voting members had the final say and they rejected it last night. Noe says that doesn't mean there aren't other ways for the organizations to collaborate. For example, she says they're both working with the Clinton County United Way to form a 2-1-1 line across all three counties. The excutive director of the Warren County United Way couldn't be reached for comment.
