Although they admit no radio communication system is perfect, Hamilton County officials say they’re doing the best they can to improve the digital system now in place. The commissioners heard a report this morning about some changes. The Cincinnati Firefighters Union had been concerned about problems with background noise, communicating inside buildings and more than one person trying to talk at a time. Mike Bailey is the Communications Center Director. He says Motorola did some testing ast week and found some settings can be changed to make the system work better.Bailey says the National Fire Chiefs Association also has issued a best practices document which includes techniques like putting the radio directly in front of your mouth to eliminate background noise. Commission President David Pepper stressed it’s important to keep in contact with the firefighters so they are aware of all the changes that are being made and know that their concerns are being heard
