2009 sees increase in Hamilton County recycling
By Mark Heyne
3/2/2010 5:17:45 PM

Hamilton County residents were putting more metal, glass, plastic and paper in their recycling bins last year. The County Solid Waste Management District says recycling reached 36,615 tons in 2009--almost 1,500 tons higher than 2008. Program Manager Holly Christmann says one of the reasons for the increase is more communities renewing their commitment to recycling and offering larger carts, giving residents more recycling capacity. She says the county's 2009 efforts conserved enough energy to power almost 6,700 homes for a year and saved more than 300,000 trees from being harvested.
