Toyota dealers from Ohio, Kentucky and Tennesee appear to be pleased with how the company is handling the recalls, and the investigations into some continued problems. WVXU's Ann Thompson reports.
THOMPSON: Carl Swope, with Toyota dealerships in Elizabethtown and Louisville, says most of his safety questions come from people who've never owned a Toyota. He says long-time owners are fine.
SWOPE: Toyota customers, by in large, will come in and say, am I supposed to be concerned, because I'm really not.
THOMPSON: Swope sells other cars too, and says the effort Toyota is making to take care of its customers is unusual. He and other dealers from Ohio, Kentucky and Tennesee came to Cincinnati to hear from the Senior Vice President of Sales. Don Esmond says the dealers have completed over one million recalls.
ESMOND: And the end of the month, the recall is complete, we're back in business and we want to make sure people know that.
THOMPSON: Esmond says he has a lot of confidence in the electronic pedal fix for the sudden acceleration problem, despite the latest california incident with a Toyota Prius.
ESMOND: We've got a third party exponent, this is same scientific firm that investigated the Oklahoma bombings, the World Trade Center. We have given them carte blanche to look at our electronic pedal, test it.
THOMPSON: And Esmond says so far, that third party firm hasn't found any problem with it.
