Many people will be celebrating the New Year tonight and, as with any party, some will have too much to drink and need a safe ride home. 

MADD and AAA are joining forces again this year to offer Care Cab.  It will provide a free taxi ride home to people who’ve had too much to drink. 

MADD’s Andrea Rehkamp (RAY-camp) says it's important to think before you drink.

Metro will sell its last bus tokens today.  They're being replaced by the 10-ride ticket that works with Metro's new fareboxes.

"Metro started selling the paper tickets at the end of November, and so far sales have been very good.  People who have bought them seem to really like them as an alternative," said spokeswoman Sallie Hilvers.  "Of course there are people who really like their tokens; they've been used to them for many years."  

In decades of writing column, I don’t think I have ever started one on a personal note.
 

But with this most interesting year coming to a close, and a new one about to begin, I will, if you will indulge me.

For me, it has been quite a year.

After 29 years, six months and two days at the Cincinnati Enquirer, writing on politics and a myriad of other subjects, I took an early retirement offer from the Enquirer in April, leaving behind working on a daily basis with good friends and  opportunities to do interesting journalism too numerous to count.

The controversial plan to build an underground limestone mine in Anderson Township is heading back to the local zoning board of appeals.  

The Ohio First District Court of Appeals issued an opinion Friday that's good news for both sides of the fight.
