War experiences shaping local veteran's career

Andrew Warner returned from the Middle East to pursue a career in medicine.

Though yesterday was Veteran's Day, remembrances are still going on today.

Andrew Warner was a student at Miami University when the twin towers fell. Like many he felt called to join the military and fight for his country. He enlisted and went into Special Forces.

Now 30 years old and retired from active duty, Warner is studying medicine at the University of Cincinnati. He remembers a specific incident when he helped save the life of a fellow soldier in the middle of battle.

Library hosts 58th Annual Veterans Day ceremony

U.S. Air Force Veteran James R. Shaw

The Main Library downtown will be paying tribute to veterans with its annual commemoration today.  The keynote speaker is James Shaw, who will be talking about the historic role of the Tuskegee Airmen.  They overcame segregation and prejudice to become one of the most highly respected fighter groups of World War II .

Will Ohio's Democratic ground game work in 2014?

Ohio Democrats were feeling pretty good Wednesday morning, once the votes had been tallied Tuesday night.
 

They managed to edge out a win in the Buckeye State for President Obama – 50.18 percent of the unofficial vote count for Obama, 48.18 percent for Mitt Romney.


And they managed to get Ohio’s Democratic senator, Sherrod Brown, re-elected over Republican challenger Josh Mandel, despite an avalanche of Super PAC money blanketing the state with TV ads trying to tear Brown down.

UC's Ohio Poll nails it - again

The final Ohio Poll from the University of Cincinnati's Institute for Policy Research was only two-tenths of a percentage point off the final election results in the presidential and U.S. Senate races in Ohio.

That means the Ohio Poll has accurately projected the winner in all 40 of the statewide candidate and ballot issue races it has polle

d since 1994.

If you had the time you might like to do what Amber Nolan is doing. She is coming to small airports like Lunken and bumming rides from pilots to see all 50 states. It's a concept she dubbed Jet-Hiking.


"I'm a travel writer and this year I wanted to take some time off and see the United States and blog about it and see our country and I thought it would be a unique and different way to do it if I went by air."


The 28 year old Nolan is attempting to visit all 50 states on a shoestring budget. Just last month she flew to her 12th state, Oregon.
