UC quickly finds new head coach

Tuberville coached Texas Tech to a 7-5 mark this season. The Red Raiders will play in the 2012 Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas.

One day after Butch Jones resigned to leave for Tennessee, the University of Cincinnati has a new coach.  Texas Tech's Tommy Tuberville was being introduced at a Saturday evening event at Fifth Third Arena as the 41st football head coach at UC.  

Tuberville coached the Red Raiders for 3 years, leading the team to a 20-17 record and two bowl appearances.  In 17 years as a head coach, he holds a 130-77 record.

Roebling repaired, weight restriction lifted

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has restored the 11-ton weight limit on the historic Roebling Suspension Bridge.

In October, a routine inspection found some deterioration of one of the beams.  That led KYTC officials to impose a 3-ton weight restriction.

The repairs were finished Thursday.  A final inspection performed Friday determined the bridge could go back to the 11-ton weight limit.

Jones leaving UC for UT

UC football coach Butch Jones  resigned today to take the coaching spot at the University of Tennessee. 

Jones will not coach the Bearcats in their upcoming bowl game against Duke.  UC has named assistant head coach Steve Stripling as interim head coach.  Stripling, a 30-year coaching veteran who joined UC in 2010, will lead the team in the Belk Bowl December 27 if a new head coach isn't hired by then.

UC Athletics Director Whit Babcock said the search for a new coach will begin immediately.  He did not specify a time frame for concluding the search.

Ohio Democrats plan to party in D.C. for inauguration

Ohio Democrats will hunker down in Washington for next month's presidential inauguration at one of the city's most luxurious and historic hotels - the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel on Connecticut Avenue NW.

If you want to go along for the fun, there's a rather hefty price tag.

According to an e-mail sent out by the Ohio Democratic Party, the "Mayflower Package" costs $4,200 per person.
