Cincy Council unlikey to change one of its rules

For now, Cincinnati Council members will likely still be able to call for separate votes on items contained in larger ordinances and motions.  

The Rules and Government Operations Committee Tuesday approved a plan to delete the provision from the current Council rules.  But right now only five members support it and it takes six affirmative votes to change it.  

Rules Committee Chairwoman Yvette Simpson said the "move to separate" is confusing.

Chief Craig: Detroit is home

Cincinnati Police Chief James Craig is officially going home. Craig is taking the top job in his hometown of Detroit.

"It's home," says Craig. "My family, my siblings, mom and dad who are aging, those are big draws... I started my policing career there almost 38 years ago. This is an opportunity to finish my policing career in a city that I love and make a difference."

Craig says he's excited about the opportunity and thankful for his time and the people in Cincinnati, adding he wouldn't have been considered for the Detroit job without his experiences here.

Cincy Council could vote on extra streetcar money in two weeks

Cincinnati City Manager Milton Dohoney spent more than two-and-a-half hours Monday answering questions about his plan to find an additional $17.5 million to build the streetcar project.  

About two weeks ago he suggested using funds from several different sources to cover the gap.  

Dohoney was asked about future cost overruns with the plan?  He said that’s possible, but there is some certainty.

County and city sparring over hiring language for sewer work

Hamilton County Commissioners want Cincinnati to change some language in the city's hiring policies for companies bidding on Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) construction projects.

The city wants all construction firms to have apprenticeship programs.

Groups like the Greater Cincinnati Building Construction Trades Council like the plan. However, some companies say it's not feasible for several reasons, including that apprentice programs for some specialized trades simply don't exist.

Western & Southern to buy Anna Louise Inn

Subject to certain conditions, Cincinnati Union Bethel has agreed to sell the Anna Louise Inn to Western & Southern Financial Group for $4 million. A news release from W&S and CUB says, as a result, all litigation will be dismissed.


Under the plan, Anna Louise Inn residents will be allowed to stay at the current location for two years while a new space with larger living areas is completed. The Anna Louise Inn will keep the same name.
