Mark Perzel

Producer/Host of Cincinnati Edition

Mark Perzel is the Executive Producer and Host of 91.7 WVXU’s local news magazine Cincinnati Edition, showcasing the wide variety of talented individuals and committed organizations and events that make Cincinnati special.

In addition, he can be heard weekday evenings hosting classical music on 90.9 WGUC.  He is also known throughout the public radio industry for inventive, award-winning holiday programs like Tunes from the Crypt, Tunes from the Crypt Goes to the Movies, Feast for the Ears, andLove Greetings.

Mark has worked in the radio industry for more than thirty years. He began in the business when he was a teenager in Charlotte, North Carolina, volunteering for a public radio station.   He attended the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, majoring in broadcasting and minoring in violin performance.

He has performed speaking parts with performing organizations throughout the tri-state including the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Carnegie Opera Theatre, and the Linton Chamber Music Series, and done voiceover work for numerous commercials and industrial videos.

ArtsWave Campaign Kicks Off With Lots of Free Art

ArtsWave (formerly the Fine Arts Fund) is preparing to kick off their 2013 fundraising campaign, and that also means the start of this year’s three Saturdays of the Macy’s Arts Sampler. The Sampler is just that, a chance for people and families to get a taste of a wide variety of arts groups that call the Greater Cincinnati area home. Rebecca Bromels, the communications director for ArtWave, joins Mark Perzel in studio to talk about the Sampler events (the first Saturday of activities is February 9), this year’s campaign kick-off on Fountain Square on Friday, February 8, and the mission of ArtsWave in supporting arts organizations in our area.

Domestica Magazine

Perhaps you’ve noticed a new magazine around town. It’s glossy, visual and all about Cincinnati. Domestica is the brainchild of Rachel Kirkwood. She describes it as a new shelter and lifestyle magazine promoting local eateries, farms, boutiques and non-profits in the Cincinnati region. She got it up and running with a Kickstarter campaign, and now the January issue is on the stands. Mark Perzel welcomes Rachel Kirkwood to the studio to find out her inspiration for this magazine, and what future issues will hold.

"Only Superhuman"

Only Superhuman by Christopher Bennett

Christopher Bennett, son of former WGUC radio host Myron Bennett, is a science fiction author living here in Cincinnati. In the past he has written books based on Star Trek, Spiderman, and X-Men, all with a hard science fiction slant. He has now published his first original novel, Only Superhuman, and he’s in the studio with Mark Perzel to talk about the book and his January 15 appearance at Joseph Beth Booksellers in Rookwood.
