Cincinnati's city manager is reviewing the city's hiring practices after a recent audit.
Assistant City Manager John Juech addressed a council committee Tuesday. He said the review found the city's system is rather decentralized, meaning things are different across the organization.
“If you are offered a job and receive an offer letter for employment in one city department, whatever that is, the policies and procedures and what you would expect are very different from department to department,” Juech said.
Juech said the goal is to come up with a solution that is somewhere in the middle - so hiring is not totally centralized but with polices in place to make sure there are routine hiring practices in all departments.
“So that you’re not totally centralized and everything has to be centralized in one place,” Juech said. “But also so that you’re not so decentralized, as we had kind of gotten a little to that side of the pendulum, so that your IT, your HR and your procurement practices are completely different from department to department.”
The city's human resources director and the city manager are working on changes. A report is expected sometime next month.
