Organizers are expecting a record turnout for the 20th running of the Flying Pig Marathon in 2018. Year-long events are being planned in the run-up to the May event.

"This past May we welcomed nearly 40,000 participants from all 50 states and nearly two dozen countries who took part in the Flying Pig," says Executive Director Iris Simpson Bush. "In 2018 we expect a record registration and we anticipate that a number of events will sell out as runners want to join us in our 20th year."

Organizers are commissioning an ArtWorks Mural on the façade of the downtown Hyatt Hotel. Work on "Dream Big & Fly High" begins this fall, according to a news release.

There will be a 20-day festival leading up to the May 4-6, 2018 race weekend. "20 Days on the Run" will feature daily celebration along the marathon and half marathon courses.

There will also be a 100-page commemorative coffee table book, an awards show, and a free street party and concert. Plus, anyone who finishes the full marathon will receive a commemorative finisher's jacket. This is the first time the Flying Pig has offered a such a prize.

Registration is now open for all events for Flying Pig weekend.
