There's now a safer place to meet up with someone when you are buying or selling on the internet. The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office is partnering with OfferUp to provide a secure location.
Starting in November, the office will open its patrol headquarters' lobby for individuals who wish to use the area for internet exchanges. The area is under 24 hour video surveillance and secured by an on-duty Sheriff's deputy.
Captain Tim Butler says it can be risky to do online business with strangers "if you do it out in public with someone you've never met before and you don't know their intentions, so this gives individuals a safe place to make these exchanges."
If the program is successful, Butler says they will consider expanding it to other districts.
You can conduct exchanges between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Patrol Headquarters located at 11021 Hamilton Ave.
