Helping Those Facing Heroin & Opiod Addiction The Focus Of A WCPO Special

Wikimedia Commons

In just one week this summer, there were more than 175 heroin overdoses reported in the Cincinnati area.

While that number has dropped significantly in the last few months, heroin and opioid addiction continues to be at a crisis level in our region. Local health, legal and community organizations have been fighting the epidemic, but treatment services in our region for addiction are still far below what is needed. WCPO has been following the drug crisis in its Heroin in the Tri-State series. And WCPO Channel 9 will broadcast a one-hour special, Heroin: Fixing a Broken System, on Thursday evening at 7.

Joining us to discuss addiction treatment and the challenges in reaching and helping those addicted to drugs are President and Addiction Treatment Specialist at BrightView and University of Cincinnati Department of Emergency Medicine Assistant Professor, Dr. Shawn Ryan; and WCPO.com/WCPO Insider Managing Editor, Opinion and Engagement, David Holthaus.
