When school is out, children get a long-awaited break from class. But it can also be a long time away from a positive learning environment and a steady meal offered twice daily.
Cincinnati Public Schools feeds thousands of children every summer at area recreation centers and other locations across the city. The Summer Food Service Program starts June 6. Locations can be found on the CPS website, or by calling 513-363-0800.
Another program starting the same day provides a good meal while addressing the summer learning loss. The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County is launching its Summer Adventure, which includes Summer Meals and Brain Camps to prepare students to go back to school ready to learn.
Joining "Cincinnati Edition" to discuss the programs are Cincinnati Public Schools Director of the Food Service Department Jessica Shelly and Supervisor of Nutrition, Commodities and the Summer Food Service Program Laruen Marlowe; and with the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, Youth Services and Programming Coordinator Lisa Soper.
