Hundreds Of Officers To Attend Kim Funeral

City of Cincinnati

Officers from around the country will attend the visitation and funeral services for Sonny Kim.  The Cincinnati Police officer was killed last Friday in Madisonville.  George Pille with Lodge 69 of the Fraternal Order of Police says that's part of the brotherhood of law enforcement.

“We have heard from departments all over the country, California, Colorado, Chicago, New York, Florida, I mean everywhere, every state we’ve heard (from)," Pille says. "They’re sending people.  We’re expecting in excess of 500 marked uniform cars to be in the procession.  We’re also expecting over 200 motorcycles.”

Pille says the department is still working on plans for other communities to have officers patrolling local streets, so Cincinnati officers can attend the funeral.

He says the attendance and participation is just the way the law enforcement community is.

“We’re police officers from all over the country, but they are my brothers and my sisters," Pille says. "If they need help, we will be there for them, like they’re going to be here for us, this Thursday and Friday.”

Visitation for Officer Sonny Kim is Thursday at the Cintas Center, from 2 until 7.  At 7, the doors will be closed for a private FOP memorial.

The funeral service is also at the Cintas Center, Friday, at 11.  Both the visitation and the funeral are open to the public, but Pille says not everyone can attend one of those events.

“We’re asking the public to show their support by lining Montgomery Road, from the Cintas Center to the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, which is located at 11000 Montgomery Road," Pille says. "That is the route that the procession will take.”
