It's a Blues Christmas Special!

This year's blues Christmas special is dedicated to the memory of WVXU Production Assistant Kevin Rowinski who started his radio broadcast career while a student at Xavier University.  Cincinnati Public Radio brought him on board in 2005 where he enjoyed his work on a number of award-winning specials over the years.  Sadly, he passed away in the spring of 2016, but his work is still highly valued by those who worked with him.  So, this blues special is one which he helped me produce in 2014.

This picture of him was taken at a Cincinnati Reds ballgame even though his first love was the Cleveland Indians.  He loved sports and has left lasting memories with those of us who were lucky enough to share time with him.

During this one-hour special, you'll hear both local and nationally known blues musicians.  The first set features the Steve Schmidt Organ Trio who'll be performing at the Comet again this year on December 20, 21 and 22.  There's also songs by Eddie Morgan & Ann Chamberlain, Cat City, and guitarist Scotty Anderson.

The second set starts off with a fun song (from the Ring III cd) by Bam Powell, "Another Waffle House Christmas," which is followed by the Goshorn Brothers, Greg Schaber, and Marcos Sastre.  The next set features legendary James Brown, BB King, and ends with Joey DeFrancesco.  And finally, the last set of the evening starts off with Etta James and the Blind Boys of Alabama, and ends with Bob Nave's version of "Auld Lang Syne" from the Ring IV cd with guitarist Marcos Sastre and drummer John von Ohlen.
