Thanksgiving travel at the Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International Airport is up 14 percent this year because of more flights, destinations and bigger planes.
More than 150,000 passengers are expected this week, with the peak travel time on Wednesday.
Diane Tvert beat the busiest time at CVG. Her husband, daughter, son-in-law and three grandsons arrived Monday from Arizona. "We flew Frontier. So Monday or Thursday for the direct flight. So Monday it is."
Airport Spokeswoman Mindy Kershner offers these tips to avoid holiday travel stress:
- Familiarize yourself with TSA requirements
- Take a Google Virtual Tour of the airport
- Check out the quickest parking options and security wait times
- Don't wear a belt
- Wear shoes that are easy to take off
You'll notice the baggage claim is getting a facelift
Construction Project Manager Damian Weller shows off new paint, energy-efficient lighting and wall treatments. He points out blue arches up above. "Actually it's the Roebling Bridge. The bridge is a component. The wood that we're going to put on the walls is more of a Kentucky bourbon type theme."
Outside the baggage claim, Weller says workers have installed better lighting and signage at the curb. The Ground Transportation Center is also under construction.
The $6 million dollar facelift is expected to be finished early next year.
