The offices of dunnhumby USA are still under construction but the parking garage beneath those offices is open. City leaders cut the ribbon on the 1,000 space garage Monday morning. Construction on the project at 5th and Race began in January 2013.
The building includes six floors of parking and three floors of office space, with retail on the ground floor.
The president of PNC Bank, Kay Geiger, calls the project "transformative."
"If you take a look at what happens in the urban core, you want to have as much activity and as much opportunity for people to come downtown. You have a parking lot which is useful, it's never as useful as having a corporate headquarters with... a thousand people in a single building, as well as parking facilities that can be used throughout the entire downtown area." Geiger says it's the best use of the property which, for the previous decade, had been a surface parking lot.
dunnhumby is a customer research and consumer science company.
The nearly $140 million project is expected to be completed in March 2015.
