Ohioans expected to hit the roads in big numbers during holiday week

Holly Yurchison

If you're among the 1.7 million Ohioans AAA says are taking a vacation this Independence Day holiday, you're in good, but likely crowded, company. The auto club estimates 1.4 million Ohioans will drive more than 50 miles from home between Wednesday, July 3 and Sunday, July 7.

Where are we going?

Pack your patience, a majority of the top destinations listed by AAA are along the I-75 corridor.

  1. Beach Vacations: Myrtle Beach, Destin and Hilton Head
  2. Mackinac Island
  3. Disney/Orlando area
  4. Niagara Falls
  5. Gatlinburg

Are we there yet?

No. Don't make me turn this car around!

What'll gas cost me?

In a release, AAA writes:

So far this week, area residents are enjoying lower gas prices with the current average of 3.37 per gallon of regular unleaded. That’s down 20 cents from one week ago and up one penny from one year ago. Travelers venturing to the destinations mentioned above should be able to fill-up along the way for $3.50 per gallon or less, except for those visiting Niagara Falls; the average price in New York is $3.71 per gallon. The current national average is $3.48 a gallon.
