Oscar Viewing Party Set For Esquire Theatre

John Kiesewetter

With “Carol” up for six Oscars, the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky Film Commission invites you to watch the Academy Awards at the Esquire Theatre Feb. 28.

WXIX-TV reporter Michael Baldwin will host “And The Winner Is…,” a benefit for the film commission which helped lure and facilitate director Todd Haynes. He filmed “Carol” here two years ago with actresses Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara.

Blanchett is nominated for best actress, and Rooney for best supporting actress.  “Carol,” set in 1952, also is nominated for best costume design, cinematography, original score and adapted screenplay by Phyllis Nagy from Patricia Highsmith’s 1952 novel, “The Price Of Salt.”

“Anomalisa,” Charlie Kaufman’s stop-motion film fictionally set in Cincinnati, also is up for best animated picture.

The film commission promises “trivia and prizes,” plus food from LaPoste Eatery, and sweets from the Bon Bonerie at the event, which starts at 7 p.m.  Chris Rock hosts ABC’s broadcast of the 88th Academy Awards from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood at 7 p.m. (Channel 9).

Tickets ($12) are available at esquiretheater.com or the Esquire box office, 320 Ludlow Ave., Clifton.
