Setting Cincinnati Streetcar Operating Hours

A Cincinnati Council committee is still exploring several options for the operating hours of the city's new streetcar system.

The questions are what time should it start operating in the morning and how late should it run into the evening.

The alternativethat seems to be getting the most support is for it to start running Monday thru Friday at 7 a.m. Saturday and Sunday would begin at 8 or 9 a.m.  It would stop at 11 p.m. most weeknights and at 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Cincinnati Metro's Paul Grether said no operating schedule is final.

“We’re going to evaluate the service, we’ll get customer requests one we start operating, and we’ll track the ridership,” Grether said.  “So we’ll see where the peak is for the Cincinnati streetcar, where the ridership demand is and we’ll make adjustments to the schedule as we go down the road.”

During peak hours the cars would run every 12 minutes and 15 minutes during non-peak hours.

Grether said Metro would like city council to finalize its preferred operating schedule early next month.

The committee could discuss the issue again before the end of the year.

The city's streetcar system is scheduled to start operating in September.
