Sewer rates could go up 5.5 percent in 2015

Hamilton County sewer rates could go up 5.5 percent next year. That'sthe recommendation from county administrators.

Rates have been increasing for several years and are expected to keep doing so to pay for the multi-billion dollar, federally mandated sewer system upgrade. Last year, commissioners approved a six percent increase.

A study by the Metropolitan Sewer District recommended a seven percent increase but the county's financial advisor says the lower number should be good enough for 2015.

The recommendation is part of next year's proposed $216.5 million operating budget. That's about 1.5 percent more than this year. The utility had requested $234 million.

County administrators are recommending a $290 million Capital Budget.

Public hearings are set for December 3 at 11:30 am and December 8 at 6:30 pm. Both hearings will be held in room 603 of the County Administration Building located at 138 E. Court Street, Cincinnati, OH 45202
