Star Trek actor to lead Oktoberfest chicken dance

We now know who'll be leading the chicken dance at next month's Oktoberfest Zinzinnati.

The Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce announced Monday actor George Takei will be the event's grand marshal and will lead the Saturday dance.

“Who famously played Mr. Sulu on the original Star Trek TV series and six movies that followed,” said Chamber Vice President Patrick Sheeran.  “George continues to be extremely active and popular decades after the show went to syndication.”

Takei is also taking part in performances that weekend with the Cincinnati Pops.

Sheeran said this year's Oktoberfest will actually open on Friday.

“Our Friday start will be at 5 p.m. and will feature 85 percent of what you can enjoy both on Saturday and Sunday,” Sheeran said.  “With the main exception being the children’s rides.”

Oktoberfest Zinzinnati features seven stages showcasing live German music and 30 food vendors.

The event runs September 20th thru the 22nd along Fifth Street downtown between Vine to Sentinel.

Officials say Cincinnati's Oktoberfest is the second largest in the world behind only the original one in Munich.
