WVXU's political correspondent, Howard Wilkinson will be on the scene for the Republican National Convention in Tampa, FL and the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC.

Tonight's Boehner's night

House Speaker John Boehner of West Chester - who is general chairman of the Republican National Convention in Tampa - is scheduled to make a speech to the delegates at the Tampa Bay Times Forum at 7 p.m. tonight.

Boehner, in interviews over the past few days, has dropped some clues about one of the issues he will talk about - his contention that the Republicans are best equipped to deal with fixing entitlement programs such as Medicare. It is an important message, because most polls give President Obama the advantage on such issues, while Mitt Romney comes out ahead of Obama on the issue of fixing the struggling economy.

Boehner is the highest ranking Republican elected official in the country. He has yet to make an appearance at the Ohio delegation's hotel, the Mainsail Suites and Conference Center. Instead, he has been at the convention and in the Republican National Committee's hotel downtown.
