TV’s Biggest Week Is Here

 The 2015-16 TV season arrives this week with many of your returning favorites and most of the highly anticipated new series: “Scream Queens,” “The Muppets,” “Heroes Reborn,” “Limitless” and “The Player.”

The first week ends Sunday with a goodbye to a long-time favorite, “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” in a two-hour CBS movie.

Below is my list of new fall series (titles in bold italic) and returning shows this week. All returning series are season premieres, unless noted.

Monday, Sept 21

8 p.m.: The Voice, blind auditions start, NBC.

8: Big Bang Theory, CBS.

8: Gotham, Fox.

8: Dancing with the Stars, second week, ABC.

8:30: Life in Pieces, CBS. Emmy winners Dianne Wiest and James Brolin head a multi-generational family comedy told through encounters with their two adult sons (Colin Hanks, “Fargo”; Thomas Sadoski “Wild,” “The Newsroom”) and daughter (Betsy Brandt, “Michael J. Fox Show,” “Breaking Bad”).

9:  Minority Report, Fox. The TV adaption of Stephen Spileberg’s 2002 thriller set in 2065 stars Stark Sands (“Inside Llewyn Davis”), Nick Zano (“90210”), Meagan Good (“Anchorman 2,” “Think Like A Man”), Laura Regan (“Mad Men”) and Wilmer Valderrama (“That ‘70s Show”). franchise

9: Scorpion, CBS.

10: Blindspot, NBC  Detailed tattoos on an amnesiac woman (Jaimie Alexander, “Thor: The Dark World,” “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”) provide a FBI agent (Sullivan Stapleton) with clues to investigate a criminal conspiracy.

10: Castle, ABC.

10: NCIS:LA, CBS.

Tuesday, Sept. 22

8 p.m.: The Muppets, ABC. They’ve saved a theater, solved international crimes, conquered aliens, battled pirates, given Scrooge the Dickens, so now the Muppets are putting on a late-night talk show for Miss Piggy. Kermit the Frog is executive producer, even though he’s broken up with Miss Piggy. (For now.) All your favorite characters will be “Up Late with Miss Piggy” – Fozzie Bear, The Great Gonzo, Pepé the King Prawn, Rizzo the Rat, Scooter, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, Beaker, Janice, Dr. Teeth, Animal and the Electric Mayhem – and then head over to Rowlf’s Tavern after the show.

8: Scream Queens, Fox. A devil-masked killer terrorizes a college after the dean (Jamie Lee Curtis, “Halloween,” “A Fish Called Wanda,” “True Lies”) orders the Kappa House to accept all students, not just the wealthiest elite, in a comedy-horror series from Ryan Murphy (“American Horror Story,” “Glee”). The cast includes Lea Michele (“Glee”); Emma Roberts (“American Horror Story: Freak Show,” “Scream 4”); Nasim Pedrad (“Saturday Night Live”); pop stars Nick Jonas and Ariana Grande; Oliver Hudson (“Nashville,” “Rules of Engagement”); Niecy Nash (“The Soul Man,” “Clean House”); Abigail Breslin (“Little Miss Sunshine,” “Zombieland,” “August: Osage County”); and Skyler Samuels (“American Horror Story: Coven”). Repeats 8 p.m. Thursday.

8: NCIS, CBS.

8:30: Fresh Off The Boat, ABC

9: NCIS: New Orleans, CBS.

9: Dancing with the Stars, ABC.

10 Limitless, CBS. Based on the 2011 Bradley Cooper film, Jake McDorman (“Amiercan Sniper,” “Shameless”) stars as the man behind the drug NZT, which lets him to use all of his brain power to help the FBI solve crimes. Cooper will appear in a recurring role as Sen. Edward Mora, a presidential hopeful who secretly uses NZT.

10: The Bastard Executioner, second episode, FX.

10:01: Best Time Ever With Neil Patrick Harris, second episode, NBC.

Wednesday, Sept. 23

8 p.m.: Rosewood Fox. Cincinnati native Gabrielle Dennis (“The Game”) plays the sister of Dr. Beaumont Rosewood (Morris Chestnut, “Nurse Jackie”), the title character of Fox’s drama about a crime-solving Miami pathologist. Rosewood’s “CSI: Miami”-style staff includes sister Pippy (Dennis) and a DNA specialist (Anna Konkle).

8: The Mysteries of Laura, NBC.

8: Survivor, a second chance for 20 former contestants, CBS.

8: The Middle, ABC.

8:30: The Goldbergs, ABC.

9:  Empire, Fox.

9: Modern Family, ABC.

9: Law & Order: SVU, NBC.

9:30: blackish, ABC.

Jack Coleman returns as Noah Bennett in "Heroes Reborn."

8 p.m.: Heroes Reborn, NBC. Set five years after NBC’s first “Heroes” (2006-10), original character Noah Bennet (Jack Coleman) returns in the reboot to provide a link to the old show about ordinary people with amazing powers. The 13-episode series from producer Tim Kring starts after a terrorist attack in Odessa, Texas, home of vigilantes Luke (Zachary Levi, “Chuck”) and Joanne (Judith Shekoni, “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2”); a conspiracy theorist (Henry Zebrowski, “A to Z”); and three powerful teens. They will encounter past “Heroes” Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka), Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg), Mohinder Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy) and The Haitian (Jimmy Jean-Louis).

8: Grey’s Anatomy, ABC.

8: NFL pregame before Washington Redskins at New York Giants, CBS.

8: Fox reruns Scream Queens premiere from Tuesday.

9: Scandal, ABC.

10: The Player, NBC. Wesley Snipes stars as a Las Vegas pit boss who fights crime with his  security expert (Philip Winchester, “Strike Back,” “Fringe”) and poker dealer (Charity Wakefield, “Mockingbird Lane,” “The Raven”) in a new drama from “The Blacklist” producers.

10: How To Get Away With Murder, Emmy-winner Viola Davis starts her second season as if Rebecca wasn’t killed last season, ABC.

Friday, Sept. 25

8 p.m.: Last Man Standing, ABC.

8: The Amazing Race, CBS.

8: Fox reruns Minority Report from Monday.

9: CSI series finale movie, CBS.

9: Family Guy, Fox.

9:30: Last Man On Earth, Fox.

10 Quantico ABC. One of the new young recruits for the FBI’s Quantico base training is suspected of masterminding a terrorist attack. The cast includes Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, Aunjanue Ellis, Yasmine Al Massri, Johanna Braddy, Tate Ellington and Jake McLaughlin.
