Juvenile violent crime is at its lowest level since 1987. Still, on average, juveniles were involved in one-quarter of all serious violent victimizations (not including murder) committed annually over the last 25 years in the United States, and in 2011 there were just under 62,000 juveniles housed in correctional facilities or detention centers. Joining us for a look at the current juvenile justice system, and what happens to a youth offender from the time of arrest through his or her incarceration, are Michele Temmel, director of the Juvenile Division of the Hamilton County Public Defender; Tracy McClorey, Lighthouse Youth Services juvenile justice division clinical supervisor; and Kim Brooks Tandy, executive director of the Children'?s Law Center.
