With three seats open, the race for Cincinnati City Council was bound to draw a crowd. There are 23 candidates on the ballot, all aiming to be among the top nine finishers elected to four-year terms. Background: Cincinnati city council member, retired Cincinnati police officer. Graduate of the Cincinnati Police Academy. Attended the University of Cincinnati. He is endorsed by the Cincinnati Democratic Committee.

On the issues: Young underwent surgery on his aorta last month. WVXU has not been able to reach him for comment on his campaign. But in a written statement published in a 2017 voter's guide issued by the League of Women Voters of the Cincinnati Area, Young said that as the city revisits and revises the 15-year-old Collaborative Agreement, "we should focus on community engagement by utilizing community-based organizations and having them partner with (the Cincinnati Police Department) to manage public safety and community program oriented policing."
