Featured Book of the Month Series:

Featured Book of the Month SeriesThe Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County is now featuring one title a month, either fiction or nonfiction, which is well-written and has broad appeal. The selected books will be ones that have been published within the past three years, but are titles that are “under the radar” and not bestsellers.

September’s title is Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister, by Gregory Maguire.

This book is available for purchase from Amazon.com and a portion of the sale will go to help support 91.7 WVXU. You can also find the Featured Book of the Month blog here.

The Michael W. Bany Music Scholarship

The Michael W. Bany Music ScholarshipOn Friday July 30, 2010 the Michael W. Bany Music Scholarship will be awarded at 7:45 p.m. on Fountain Square during a Midpoint Indie Summer Concert performance. This year’s recipient Courtney Craig, a 2010 graduate of Purcell Marian High School, will attend Wittenberg University where she will major in Music.

The Michael W. Bany Music Scholarship was established in honor of the popular musician who was murdered in 1995 following a music performance. Michael devoted his life to music and entertainment. The scholarships presented in his name/memory are awarded to area high school seniors who have demonstrated musical talent and need financial assistance to pursue an undergraduate degree in a music related field. To date the fund has presented 14 scholarships to local area music students as well as provided monies to other organizations whose primary mission is music education.
