More From Jazz with OT:

Jazz With OT: In tribute to Oscar, WVXU continues to broadcast Jazz with OT every Sunday evening at 9:00 PM. Thanks to the donation of his radio archive by his family, WVXU is restoring hundreds of hours of programs for future broadcast.

Bruce EllisBruce Ellis, our production director discovered a great way to preserve Oscar's legacy. But reviving some of Oscar’s old shows has required technical knowledge, ingenuity and a really good oven.

Restoration of Classic Jazz With OT programs is supported by a grant from the Fine Arts Fund.

Dick LaPalm is a legendary jazz and pop record promoter who made his reputation in the 1950s and 1960s. Back in those days, Dick's job was to get records on the air for artists like Nat King Cole, Ahmad Jamal and others. Often musicians consulted with him to determine what types of songs and albums would have the best shot of clicking with listeners. Which meant enormous musical knowledge on Dick's part as well as super networking skills and a tack-sharp memory. Remember, no cell phones, no emails, no Internet back then. Just a Rolodex, a telephone, and plenty of shoe leather and horse-trading.

About Jazz with OT:
In the Summer of 2005 Cincinnati Public Radio was delighted to announce the return of Oscar Treadwell to Cincinnati’s airwaves. The beloved former WGUC and WVXU jazz host reprised Jazz with OT on 91.7 WVXU every Sunday evening. As a tribute to OT, these programs continue, taking jazz fans on a wonderful musical journey. In these programs OT spins the tunes of the jazz masters, tells their stories, and provides counterpoint with his beautiful poetry narrations.
