The Journey From Within

Saturday, January 15th, at 11pm

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.The Journey From Within is a one-hour tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The special begins with a song by Sweet Honey in the Rock and then continues with the words of Dr. Maya Angelou. Listeners will also hear from Reverend Adam Clayton Powell and philosopher Cornel West. There are important historical moments from Marian Anderson on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in 1939, President Lyndon B. Johnson’s 1965 Civil Rights speech, and the voice of Dr. King.

Songs by the Neville Brothers, Blind Boys of Alabama, and Linda Tillery & the Cultural Heritage Choir are also included. Garrison Keillor joins the Fairfield Four on a song, and the special concludes with a portion of the 1993 speech by President Bill Clinton to the congregation in the Memphis church where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his final sermon before being assassinated in 1968.

The Journey From Within is produced and hosted by Lee Hay. She also produced a 2-hour tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., We Were Here, in 2003 which won an award from the Ohio Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission and was aired on over 50 public radio stations across the country.
