The fourth Lumenocity light and music show this weekend presents new challenges – instead of capturing the sights and sounds outside Music Hall, radio and TV producers and directors will be broadcasting a live show from inside Taft Theatre.
This month, the first live recording from the Cincinnati Pops will be released. American Originals was recorded in January 2015 at Music Hall and the program featured Conductor John Morris Russell leading the Pops and a group of talented guest stars through parts of the Great American Songbook and the music of Stephen Foster.
The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra is gearing up for their 2014-15 concert season, so Maestro John Morris Russell paid a visit to our Brian O’Donnell to give a preview of the concerts that will include Disney’s Fantasia, Natalie Cole, Over the Rhine, and legendary trumpeter Doc Severinsen.
Next year’s Cincinnati Pops season will run the gamut from favorite standards to space, Broadway and more. And as Conductor John Morris Russell tells our Brian O’Donnell, some of the guest stars include the iconic George Takei and star of “Smash,” Megan Hilty.
This year’s Cincinnati Pops Classical Roots concert happens Friday, March 15 at Music Hall. This celebration of the musical contributions of African-Americans will feature conductor John Morris Russell, the incomparable Branford Marsalis, and the CSO Classical Roots Community Mass Choir featuring singers from over 30 area churches. John Morris Russell is in the studio with Mark Perzel to talk about the importance of this one-night only concert, and some of the unsung heroes they will be saluting.
