In 1839, Ohio was a free state — but that doesn't mean it was welcoming to African Americans. Yet, that year, the Parkers, an abolitionist family, opened a school that welcomed not only Black and White students but, remarkably for this time, males and females. This short will tell the story of the Clermont Academy and take us to the only school building that remains, which is now the private residence of local historian Greg Roberts.
