Update, January, 2016: "The Burdens of Brotherhood: Jews and Muslims, from North Africa to France" has been named a 2015 National Jewish Book Award Winner

Headlines from France suggest Muslims have renewed an age-old struggle against Jews and that the two groups are once more inevitably at odds. But Dr. Ethan Katz says the past tells a different story.

In his latest book, ?The Burdens of Brotherhood: Jews and Muslims, from North Africa to France,? he looks at the experiences of ordinary people to show how relations between Jews and Muslims were shaped by everyday encounters and by perceptions of their collective similarities or differences. University of Cincinnati Assistant Professor of History and Affiliated Professor of Judaic Studies, Dr. Ethan Katz, joins us to discuss the history of Muslims and Jews in France.
