Books By The Banks 2019

The 13th Annual Books By The Banks Cincinnati USA Book Festival will be held Saturday, October 26 the Duke Energy Convention Center in downtown Cincinnati. Along with more than 100 authors who will talk with patrons and sign copies of their books, there will be author panels and discussions; a kids zone and teen scene with a variety of activities and entertainment; sponsor tables; and an onsite bookstore from Joseph Beth Booksellers.Cincinnati Public Radio will have a table - stop by and say hi to the hosts and staff, sign-up to win a CD or other prize, and let us know what you think about our stations! Community Conversations Explore Race In America Through 'The Hate U Give'

As part of a program designed to spark meaningful dialogue about the tough issues surrounding race and racism, the YWCA Greater Cincinnati is partnering with local libraries, bookstores and universities to discuss the YA fictional book by author Angie Thomas, The Hate U Give.

Academics and community leaders will be leading a series of conversations that explore the complexities of race in America by examining the fictional story of a 16-year-old high achieving student who witnesses a friend shot by police during a traffic stop.

Cincinnati Edition speaks with program facilitators Alicia Townsend, chair of the YWCA Racial Justice Committee and US Bank vice president of Community Affairs; and Diane Jordan, vice chair of the YWCA Board of Directors and president of Thembi Speaks, LLC, about the series of conversations culminating in a movie screening on March 31.
