According to the NPR Math Guy Keith Devlin, all of the mathematical methods he learned at university have become obsolete in his lifetime. Devlin, the director of the Stanford Mathematics Outreach Project and Executive Director of Stanford’s Human-Sciences and Technologies Advanced Research Institute, says we need a new kind of math education for a new era.

Devlin's book, Mathematics Education for a New Era: Video Games as a Medium for Learning, explores the potential for learning math through video games.

Devlin is the author of 33 books and his current research focuses on new media to teach and communicate mathematics to diverse audiences. He co-founded the educational technology company, BrainQuake, which creates mathematics learning video games.

Keith Devlin joins Cincinnati Edition to discuss how we need to change our thinking about math education.

Listen to Cincinnati Edition live at noon M-F. Audio for this segment will be uploaded after 4 p.m. ET.
