Studying Life in the Colonies

Most of us studied the colonial period in grade school, but can you name the 13 original colonies, give an overview of the French and Indian War, or know how Jamestown got its name? That time in our history shaped so much of what was to come in the birth and growth of our country, so we thought it appropriate going into the Fourth of July holiday to take a look back at that era. Joining us is Dr. Donald Hayes, governor of the Ohio chapter of the Society of Colonial Wars, and Wilmington Middle School American History teacher Cherie Dixon, who was sponsored by the Society of Colonial Wars to attend the Colonial WilliamsburgTeacher Institute.

Jay Hanselman brings more than 10 years experience as a news anchor and reporter to 91.7 WVXU. He came to WVXU from WNKU, where he hosted the local broadcast of All Things Considered. Hanselman has been recognized for his reporting by the Kentucky AP Broadcasters Association, the Ohio Society of Professional Journalists, and the Ohio AP Broadcasters.
