Politico: Portman to run 2014 GOP Senate races?

Politico.com reported todaythat Ohio's junior senator, Rob Portman, is interested in chairing the National Republican Senatorial Comm

ittee (NRSC) in the 2014 campaign cycle.

The website cited two unnamed sources "familiar with his thinking" who said Portman - who was on the short list of potential running mates for GOP nominee Mitt Romney - is considering running for the NRSC job. Portman - who campaigned hard for Romney throughout Ohio - has said nothing on the subject.

The NRSC chairman heads the GOP's efforts to win Senate races around the country. In 2014, NRSC will be gunning to take back control of the Senate.

Portman, who lives in Terrace Park, would be up for re-election to the Senate in 2016, which is also the next presidential election cycle.
