Gardening: Spring Is Here And Cicadas Are Coming

Spring flowers (Bill Rinehart/WVXU)

Spring is officially here, and with it are warmer temperatures and more daylight.

But something else is on the way, too: cicadas.

The 17-year brood is set to emerge from the ground and take over the region in swarms later this spring for the first time since 2004.

So, it's time to get your hands dirty out in the garden, but what should you know about cicadas and their potential impact?

Cincinnati Edition's monthly gardening show airs live at noon on Wednesday and we'll be taking your phone calls at 513-419-7100 and emails at talk@wvxu.org about anything and everything gardening, landscaping, flowers, trees, and more.

Joining Cincinnati Edition are Turner Farm Community Garden Program Director and Homeadow Song Farm Co-overseer Peter Huttinger; and Waterfields Director of Greenhouse Operations and University of Cincinnati adjunct faculty member Joshua Jones.

Listen to Cincinnati Edition live at noon M-F. Audio for this segment will be uploaded after 4 p.m. ET.
