Independent Record Label Opens Shop on Monmouth Street

Torn Light Records on Monmouth St. in Newport, KY is the dream-child of Alex York and Kyle Shibinski, formerly of the band White Walls.

Alex and Kyle formed Torn Light originally to help distribute their own band's material, but soon found themselves producing records for bands like Vacationand Sunken Cheek.

The label's clients include several groups that push avant-garde sound to the extreme, and current projects include an EP by Public Housing and a 2-song 7" vinyl reissue by Mardou.

Co-owner Alex York told me that, with distribution around the world, it makes him happy just to know that the label's records are out there and hopefully they can find the right audience or they can help these bands develop a new audience.
