Health District doesn't need county approval

Hamilton County Commissioners are modifying the approval process for something called "then and now" resolutions proposed by the Public Health District.

The resolutions allow the district to pay organizations it does business with.

Commissioner Chris Monzel says the district shouldn't have to get approval from the board and a legal opinion from the county prosecutor agrees.

"If we have no say in their budget - we don't give them money - then why are we wasting our time, our clerk's efforts, our paper efforts to go through all this when, in reality, we have really no control over it?" he asks.

Monzel authored the resolution modifying the process. It stems from a $6000 contract the Health District has with Planned Parenthood to provide HIV testing. Monzel's chief of staff says the money comes from a grant.
