Cincinnati Council will vote Wednesday on an ordinance adding addiction prevention as a priority for the city's human services funding.
The original measure was specific for heroin and opioids. But council member Chris Seelbach was successful with an amendment to remove those words.
"I think that it only makes sense that we allow the broad term of just 'addiction services' so that we can adjust to the epidemic as it changes," he said.
With addiction prevention, the city will now have four focus areas for human services funding. The other three are homeless prevention, helping people find gainful employment, and violence prevention.
