Andrew "Drew" Allen, who was hit by multiple cars less than two weeks after his 2-year-old brother Brody died of cancer, will survive, though he remains unconscious and cannot breathe on his own, our news partner WCPO reports.
"Today I can report that ours and your prayers have been answered," father Todd Allen wrote in the Team Brody Facebook group. "I believe God placed Andrew in the hands of some of the finest first responders, doctors, nurses and staff in the country. They saved Andrew."
Todd Allen added that his son, 19, has a "very, very, long way to go," noting that he still requires some surgeries before he can be transferred to a rehab facility.
On Monday, Nov. 5, Andrew Allen was hit by multiple cars while crossing Springdale Road near Niagara Street and suffered damage to his brain, heart and lungs. "Eleven days ago we buried our son Brody. Today (wife) Shilo and I are again in the hospital facing the very real reality that we may lose another son," Todd Allen wrote Nov. 8.
The Allens' youngest son, Brody, died Oct. 19 from a rare form of brain cancer. Doctors at Cincinnati Children's Hospital told the Allens in early September that he likely wouldn't live to see Christmas. That's when the community banded together to help the family celebrate the holiday early with a Christmas-themed parade on Sept. 23.
Todd Allen ended his Thursday post with thanks to the community.
"Your prayers, encouragement, love and support have been the rock we have leaned (sic) on for a long time now," he wrote. "It's so very hard to explain, except to say again you have carried us. We feel the love and strength from your prayers."
