The Blues: A Tribute in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

In honor of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration on Monday, January 20th, I've produced a special tribute show.  The show begins with Sweet Honey in the Rock and ends with a moving piece from the compilation "The Long Road to Freedom" on Buddha Records.  The piece features Irving Barnes with "I'll Never Turn Back No Mo'" and an excerpt from Dr. King's "We Were Here" speech.  You'll also hear spirituals from Mahalia Jackson, Patti Labelle, Aretha Franklin, and the Blind Boys of Alabama.  There's poetry from Dr. Herbert Woodward Martin and Dr. Maya Angelou.  Plus, a moving version of Stevie Wonder's "Jesus Children of America" by vocalist Lalah Hathaway which includes a poignant word tribute by poet Malcolm-Jamal Warner to the 20 young victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.  You'll find a playlist for tonight's show (which airs at 11pm on Saturday, January 18th, 2014) at the bottom of the page.
