Central Parkway YMCA Renovation Plans Unveiled

The Central Parkway YMCA is getting some big updates. The Y unveiled renovation drawings Wednesday. The $27 million project was announced last year and work began in December.

Greater Cincinnati YMCA President and CEO Sandy Walker says the renovated tower will include 66 senior housing apartments operated by Episcopal Retirement Homes.

"We think it's important to bring this whole building back to life," says Walker. "And as we look at the Homeless to Homes plan here in Cincinnati... to have affordable apartments with supportive services is really going to be a nice complement to all that's happening to provide really good housing. And senior housing is hard to find here in the city core."

Plans also call for a two-story health and wellness center and a community gathering space.

The project is being largely funded with various tax credits and philanthropic donations.

The Y is slated to reopen in spring 2016.
