The Archdiocese of Cincinnati

The Archdiocese of Cincinnati is naming Susan M. Gibbons as its next Director of Educational Services and Superintendent of Catholic schools. The Dayton native had been serving as interim superintendent since Jim Rigg left last fall to take a similar position in Chicago.Prior to being named interim superintendent, Gibbons served as a Regional Director of Catholic Schools and has taught at Seton and Alter high schools.

In a statement, Archbishop Dennis Schnurr says Gibbons has devoted her entire career to Catholic ministry and "will be a steady hand as Superintendent, just as she was as Interim Superintendent, insuring that the strong forward movement of our schools will continue."

Gibbons says, "It is my honor and privilege to serve the Archdiocese of Cincinnati as the Superintendent of Catholic Schools. Together, we will continue our mission of excellence in Catholic education."

Gibbons earned undergraduate degrees in mathematics, French, and secondary education at Mount St. Joseph University and has a Master of Arts in education from Xavier.

The Cincinnati Archdiocese says it has the sixth largest network of Catholic schools in the United States in terms of enrollment. It's the 38th largest Catholic diocese in the country, with almost 500,000 Catholics in a 19-county territory that includes 111 Catholic primary and secondary schools.
