The superintendent of Catholic schools in the Cincinnati Archdiocese has resigned to take a similar position in Chicago. Jim Rigg has been the leader of Cincinnati's Catholic schools since 2010.
According to a news release, Archbishop Dennis Schnurr will soon name an interim superintendent for this school year and start the search for a permanent replacement. The archdiocese credits Rigg with launching its first-ever comprehensive vision and strategic plan for its 111 schools.
“Officials at the Archdiocese of Chicago undertook a nationwide search to find the best Catholic school superintendent, and they succeeded,” said the Most Reverend Dennis M. Schnurr, Archbishop of Cincinnati. “Dr. Jim Rigg is an exceptional educational leader. Now he will be putting his talents at the service of the nation’s largest Catholic school system."
Before coming to Cincinnati, Rigg was the Diocesan Director of Curriculum in the Diocese of Colorado Springs, and was the principal at two Catholic schools in Colorado Springs, and one in Memphis, Tennessee.
The resignation takes effect October 2.
