Cincinnati Parking Meters Rates Go Up Next Month

WVXU

Parking meter rates will be increasing by 25 cents in parts of Downtown, Over-the-Rhine and some neighborhood business districts beginning on September 21.

City Council approved the increases when it passed the city's operating budget in June.
The city's Department of Community and Economic Development has now issued a list with the actual changes.

Meter rates will increase from 50 cents to 75 cents per hour in the following neighborhood commercial districts: Clifton, Corryville, The Heights, CUF, East Walnut Hills, Hyde Park, Mt. Lookout, Northside, Oakley, College Hill, O'Bryonville, Pleasant Ridge and Walnut Hills.

Rates will remain at 50 cents an hour in the following neighborhoods: Avondale, Camp Washington, Carthage, East Price Hill, Evanston, Madisonville, Mt. Auburn, Mt. Washington, Queensgate, Roselawn, West Price Hill, and Westwood.

Long-term parking meters in Downtown will now range anywhere from 50 cents to $1.25. Short-term meter rates for Downtown and Over-the-Rhine will be from $1 to $2.50 per hour depending on the location.

"Selection of neighborhood commercial areas was determined based on areas where smart meter technology has been deployed and commercial activity is sufficient to support a dynamic pricing methodology," City Manager Harry Black wrote in a memo.

City officials said the increases are 25 cents lower than what was originally proposed. It's the first time neighborhood rates have been hiked since 2010. Downtown and OTR meter rates were adjusted in 2015.
