The members of the Cincinnati Police Department's latest recruit class are halfway through their 26-week training program. They are scheduled to graduate on July 1. The group includes 51 members. Three recruits dropped out after training started.
Police Captain Russ Neville provided an update to City Council's Law and Public Safety Committee Monday.
Some facts about the recruits:
- 10 have associate degrees.
- 26 have bachelor degrees.
- 4 have masters degrees.
- 15 have prior military experience.
- 10 have previous law enforcement experience.
Recruits recently took their mid-term exams with scores ranging from 78 to 94, which Neville described as positive.
After graduation, the new police recruits will spend 13 weeks with field training officers.
"Their daily activities are monitored closely, they're recorded, they're reviewed through the supervisory process," Neville said. "And then they ultimately come back to the academy for additional review. We know on a daily basis what their progression is, and what remedial training may be needed."
This is the Cincinnati Police Department's 106th training class. Council will consider funding for another class in the new fiscal year, which starts July 1.
